Facebook said the number of active monthly users has surpassed 900 million last month as it reported its quarterly earnings Monday in an addendum to its IPO filing.
Facebook said 526 million people log in to the social network every day on average through either a desktop or mobile connection, up 41 percent over the past year.

But while Facebook’s first-quarter revenues jumped by 45 percent compared to the same quarter last year, profit for the first quarter of 2012 fell to $205 million, down 12 percent year-over-year, because it spent heavily on research and development.

Research and development costs increased by $96 million, or 168 percent, compared to the same quarter in 2011, Facebook said.
