Hi~線上英文

Hello! My name is Ian, and I hail from the relatively unknown state of South Carolina in the USA . My hometown, Charleston , has American history and Southern culture everywhere you look, making it a popular tourist destination. Unfortunately, when I tell people in Taiwan where I am from, I am met with blank stares. Now I just say it is north of Florida . I graduated from one of the top-ten public high schools in the nation, Academic Magnet High School in North Charleston , South Carolina , and completed a Bachelor of Arts with High Honors in Religion and English from Oberlin College in Oberlin , Ohio . I have been teaching English in Taiwan for almost four years, and I have enjoyed every minute of it! 

你好！我的名字是 Ian（伊恩），來自美國的南卡州，一個比較鮮為人知的美國州份。我的故鄉查爾斯頓(Charleston)充滿著美國歷史和美國南部文化的痕跡，所以它是個很受歡迎的觀光勝地。不過每次我告訴台灣人我來自哪裡時，他們都沒聽過…所以我現在只好說我故鄉在佛羅里達的北邊。我高中時就讀美國排名前十的 Academic Magnet High School，接著大學時在Oberlin College（歐柏林學院）主修英文和宗教學，並以優異成績畢業。我目前在台灣教英文已經有4年左右的時間了，而且每分每秒都令人享受！


From my perspective as a teacher, I think English is an interesting yet challenging language to learn, but I understand that students might only see the latter. My goal as an English teacher is to cultivate an interest for learning the language. In other words, to help my students discover what is interesting as well what is challenging. To that end I try to create a friendly, open environment in my classes, and I shower my students with encouragement and positive feedback.

對我來説，英文是很有趣又富有挑戰性的語言，不過對學生而言，好像就只看得到「挑戰性」這個部分。我當英文老師的目的就是要幫學生培養出學習英文的興趣。換句話說，我會幫助他們發現英文有趣的地方。因此，我試圖創造出一個親切友善且開放的英文學習環境，也會不斷的給學生鼓勵和正面回饋。


I have taught all ages—kindergarten to adult—and all levels—zero English to practically fluent—and I have developed an ability to address my students’ needs and shortcomings as a result. My particular areas of interest in teaching adults are public speaking, writing (e-mails), grammar, current events, general conversation, and topics related to the humanities (history, literature, philosophy, religion, etc.). I believe I am a conscientious teacher, and I can promise I will work hard to help you improve your English! 

我教過各種年齡層和英文程度的學生：有幼稚園小孩也有成人、有一竅不通也有非常流利的。因此，我培養出了根據學生不同的學習需求和需加強處來因材施教的能力。針對成人班的學生，我能夠討論的領域為公衆演講、電子郵件撰寫、英文文法、時事，以及人文相關的題材，如：歷史、文學、哲學、宗教…等等。我相信我是個認真的老師，我也保證我會很努力讓你的英文更進步！
