NBA sensation Jeremy Lin and world No. 1 women’s golfer Yani Tseng have both made Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people. They were among only six athletes named to the prestigious club this year.

Lin was at the top of the TIME 100 list when it was released yesterday, and Yani Tseng appeared high up on the list as well.

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, who like Lin played basketball at Harvard, had plenty of praise for Lin in the introduction he wrote about the Knicks’ star. He said Lin’s story has debunked prejudices and stereotypes, and his play on the court has dispelled the idea that Asian-American guards somehow couldn't hack it in the NBA.

Another of the six athletes, and the only female athlete, to make the TIME 100 list was Taiwan’s Yani Tseng. She has dominated women’s golf recently, but Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam wrote of Tseng that there was more to the world No. 1 than her results.

Aside from Lin and Tseng, the Time 100 list had five other figures of Chinese descent, including Chinese Vice Premier Xi Jinping, an American labor activist of Taiwanese descent Ai-jen Poo, and Academia Sinica academician Andrew Lo.
